German Grobe, ‘The Gift’

The Düsseldorf artist German Grobe (1857 - 1938) was devoted to Katwijk. In 1887, Grobe made his first appearance in Katwijk. It became a lifelong love. From 1888 onwards, Grobe frequently visited the artist village of Katwijk with his family. This exhibition includes paintings, aquarelle, and drawings from a donation done to the Katwijks Museum. In a broad perspective, Grobe paints the life in this Dutch coastal village. All Katwijk scenes appear in colorful, often impressionistic images. On the seaside, sea and beach views are depicted, and further inland, it is the dunes and village scenes. In numerous portraits Grobe shows us his beloved Katwijkers.
