What are cycling nodes (junctions)?

You've probably seen them along the roadside: green and white signs with numbers. These are cycling nodes (junctions). These cycling nodes are part of a network found throughout the Netherlands, making it easy to plan your cycling routes from one node to another. You can determine the length and difficulty of your route yourself.

There are two types of signs: rectangular green and white signs with numbers (node signs) and directional signs between nodes that guide you from one node to the next. This way, you don't have to keep checking a map or your phone, but can simply follow the signs and enjoy your ride.

How to create a route using cycling junctions?

Hoe werkt het fietsen met knooppunten? Wel, heel eenvoudig. Voor je vertrekt neem je best de fietsknooppuntenkaart van de omgeving waar je wilt fietsen erbij. Of je gebruikt een van de online routeplanners. Dan volg je deze stappen:

  1. Stippel op de kaart of online jouw route uit. Je verbindt de knooppunten en maakt zo een leuke route.
  2. Noteer de knooppunten of sla ze op in een app. Tip: opschrijven op jouw hand of op een papiertje dat je op jouw fiets kleeft werkt ook goed.
  3. Ga naar jouw startknooppunt en volg de richting van het volgende knooppunt. Dit staat op het bord aangeduid met een pijl.
  4. Tussen de knooppunten vind je doorverwijsborden met een pijl en het nummer van het volgende knooppunt.
  5. Aangekomen aan het knooppunt zie je de richting die je uit moet voor het volgende knooppunt.
  6. Geniet van jouw tocht!
