Safety at the beach

Safety is of great importance when visiting the beautiful Noordwijk beach. Here are some tips and guidelines to make your beach day safe and worry-free:

Safety for swimmers

Swim when the water is rising ('flood') and not when it is receding ('ebb'). In summer, lifeguards are present. Pay attention to their instructions. There are warning signs in some places. Please read them carefully as they contain important information. You can find information about high and low tide times in the tide table.

Before swimming, check which flag is raised on the beach:

Yellow flag: Dangerous, swim with caution
Red flag: Swimming prohibited
Black and white checkered flag: boaters, kiters and sailors active. Do not swim in this part of the sea.
White flag with question mark: A lost child has been brought to a beach post.

KEEP IN MIND! The sea poses dangers!

Dangerous Currents

The North Sea offers cooling and fun, but can also be treacherous. Consider tides, waves, wind, and currents when swimming in the sea. Never go into the water alone and avoid going too deep.

The Noordwijk Lifeguard Brigade monitors the Noordwijk beach. Various lifeguards walk, drive, and sail to monitor different locations. There are fixed beach posts you can visit.
